About
.

Something Great is a non-profit organisation and arts centre in Germany dedicated to contemporary performing arts in their many forms, including dance, performance, theatre, music, and interdisciplinary work that connects these disciplines with other art forms and fields of knowledge.

Headquartered in Berlin, housed at Schloss Mentin in the Ruhner Berge (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), and working year-round with venues and festivals worldwide, Something Great supports, presents, and tours work by emerging and established artists from around the world.

Through collaborations with associated artists and the programming of residencies, events, and online radio shows, Something Great’s activities reach audiences in contexts that are usually kept apart: local and international, urban and rural, live and digital.

At the same time, Something Great develops community projects in the villages of the Ruhner Berge, creating spaces for dialogue and exchange between international artists and local residents.

Guided by the question “Why should cities be the only centres of international artistic and cultural life?”, Something Great has been building the SG Arts Centre since 2022, recognising that its location in rural eastern Germany, between Berlin and Hamburg, is not peripheral but a place of radical possibility.

Background

Founded in 2017, Something Great began as a Berlin-based office for the international distribution of contemporary performing arts, with a focus on dance and performance. Since then, it has organised more than 2,500 guest performances worldwide, bringing the work of its associate artists to major contemporary arts festivals and venues in Germany, across Europe, and beyond. Alongside its current associate artists, it has previously collaborated with artists such as Florentina Holzinger, Bruno Beltrão / Grupo de Rua, Ivo Dimchev, Radouan Mriziga, Doris Uhlich, and Nature Theater of Oklahoma, among many others.
